Vivica A. Fox will reprise her role as Jasmine Dubrow for Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day 2, which hits theaters on June 24, 2016.
Roland Emmerich, who directed the original, took to Twitter Monday night to make the announcement and welcome Fox to the team, which already includes returning star Jeff Goldblum, plus newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Goldblum and Fox were part of the 1996 original. Usher will play her son in the film. Hemsworth is playing Bill Pullman’s son. Pullman, who played President Thomas J. Whitmore, is expected to return, as well. Will Smith is not expected to return to the sequel and talks are ongoing with Bill Pullman for him to reprise his role.
In ID4, Jasmine Dubrow is a single mother and exotic dancer who married her boyfriend, fighter pilot Captain Steven Hiller (played by Smith).
Carter Blanchard is rewriting the script. Emmerich will produce the film along with Devlin and Harald Kloser.
The original Independence Day opened on July 3, 1996 and earned an impressive $817.4 million worldwide.
